PhotoSite Refugees get 50% off at SmugMug

July 10, 2007

Fleeing PhotoSite? Get a 50% discount coupon for SmugMug.

That was fast! Even before we got our own emails that PhotoSite was closing, we’ve been bombarded with refugees wondering if we have some sort of a deal or a discount.

Happy to oblige – use coupon code ‘photosite‘ to get 50% off your first year, or click here to start your free trial right now with the 50% coupon automagically applied.

On a side note, I absolutely hate it when this happens. And it happens a lot, I’m afraid. The free guys keep dropping like flies, even if they have huge corporate backers like Adobe, HP, Canon, Microsoft, or Yahoo. You’d think that’d be good for my business, right? Wrong – it leaves a bad taste in the mouths of their customers, who are then gun shy when they think about finding a new service. *sigh*.

Often in life you get what you pay for. If you care about your photos, come see what you’ve been missing.

I have a photography business, and I used the gallery for my customers to only look at their pics. Is that possible. I don’t want them to be able to order pics from the site, and I don’t want them to be able to download pics. I will definetly used your site to order all pics from if I find that you can accomodate these requests.
Also, can you label each picture on the gallery the same as its file name, I could do that in photosite very easily and LOVED that feature.
    waiting to here from you

@melissa: yes, you can set it up so they can’t order photos or download from your site. And also have it use the filename as the title for each photo.

Sign up for a free trial and check it out.

SmugMug has been recommended to me by a fellow photographer.
I had a *premium* account with photosite, and after the discontinuance notification and reviewing available options, I like what I see in customization and the other professional features with SmugMug.
How easy is it to use my existing domain? Can I use any domain registrar?
    Thanks, Jim

My worries are the same. I had a premium account with Photosite and now wondering how I can recover my domain name from them.

I’m a Photosite refugee. I’ve tried 3 other free sites and landed at SmugMug after online forum users raved about the site. I’ve only been using the site for a couple of days but already find it seems to meet my needs. I hope the powers at SmugMug continue to reach out to wandering Photosite customers.

I just signed up for a year’s service with the pro category but did not receive the 50% discount. Instead they gave me just $5. What’s up with that?

Hi, I’m really sorry about that – it’s a quirk in our system, and we’re trying to get it fixed just as fast as possible.

In the meantime, I’ve issued a credit to your card, so you’ll have received the full 50% discount. It might take a couple of days for the credit to show, but I’ve issued it tonight. Please write to us at our help desk http://www.smugmug.com/help/emailreal if you have any questions at all. Thanks for joining us!

I have the same problem as Robert Mielke, I just signed up this morning and the email I received showed only a $5 discount. It also looks like the temporary authorization on my credit card is for $144.95 (149.95-5.00).

I am coming from Photosite and plan to join Smugbug’s Pro line and seeing some, but not all, getting the 50% discounted membership – can you confirm the discount and how long that offer stands?

@Theresa – anyone who uses the code gets the discount – we’ll always fix things up even after the fact 🙂 please just email our help desk and we’ll sort it out right away. Thanks!

The Photosite slurper to SmugMug is officially here and live! http://smugglr.smugmug.com/

It has actually been live a couple weeks but there were some lingering bugs. Now it is 100% good to go!

Finally, the refugees can officially come home 🙂
